Artois - the region around Arras

The Pas de Calais is much more rural than the Nord	Count of Artois: medieval warlord The old Artois domain is a large part of present-day Pas de Calais.
MAP: Lands ruled by the Count of Artois 1369, during the Hundred Years' War. The Counts of Flanders and Hainaut were also powerful in the region - England had captured Calais and Pointhieu (Abbeville) after victory at the Battle of Crécy (1346).
