Crabble Mill, Dover 1812

Built in 1812, it is one of 5 large water-powered flour mills built in Dover during the Napoleonic Wars. These fed the troops building fortifications to repel an expected invasion from France.

Flour fetched a high price in 1812 because of bad harvests and Napoleon's blockade, which prevented Britain from importing grain from Europe.

Crabble Mill has been restored and is open to the public.
