original layout unchanged, set in a lake for defence in
troubled times. Inside the walls and towers is the house,

Olhain is a miraculous survival from the 13th - 15th
centuries. It is a complete and authentic example of a
medieval castle built in the lowlands when North France was
troubled by the fighting of the Hundred
Years' War. In such lawless
times, soldiers were not paid, but lived by looting and
stealing food from the people of the countryside. Robber
bands and plague added to the problems.
You enter the castle over a drawbridge across the moat. You
can tour the castle, including the lofty watch tower (100
steps to the top), the chapel, thye guardroom, and the
cellars.
