Les Chocolats de Beussant

Unassuming entrance to the chocolate workshop in the beautiful Course valley

Hidden away - but worth finding
After driving up the beautiful valley of the River Course, we found the chocolaterie hidden away in this unassuming bungalow just outside the village of Beussant.

Down the stairs by the side of the garage, tempting smells welcome you to a different world. You walk through a small chocolate shop into a basement chocolate factory, decorated with prize show pieces like a model of St-Omer Cathedral, all in chocolate!

The tour and demonstration:
(left) a school group watches M.Derick's assistant pour chocolate into a mould; (right) M.Derick shows how they cover various filled centres with chocolate, and finish with a decoration.

Taste the difference
You have just tasted the most amazing chocolate of your life! Here you've seen two brothers, Alain and Bruno Derick make the highest quality chocolates by hand, using only the freshest ingredients.

They achieve a flavour that has to be tasted to be believed! "Goûtez la différence!"(Taste the difference!)" is their slogan.

Filled chocolates

Shop
After the demonstration and tasting, you go back through the shop - to buy some more to take home... All the chocolates here are really fresh - none more than 2-3 days old. It's best to bring a cool bag to take them home in - they really are that different from mass-produced chocolates.

Sweet tooth
Using artisan methods, the Derick brothers are carrying on a centuries-old regional tradition as "chocolatiers" - catering for the "sweet tooth" of the people of Northern France and Belgium, now through a chain of shops as well.

Tours in English
If you want, they can arrange tours in English - Alain DERICK lived in California for 10 years.
