Hospice Comtesse Museum Lille

Flemish tapestries	Countess of Flanders One of the few surviving reminders of the Counts of Flanders, this building was once the 'Hospice Comtesse' - a hospital founded in 1237 by the Countess of Flanders, Jeanne de Constantinople. One of the oldest buildings in Lille's characterful Old Town, you enter it through a stone archway like a medieval Oxford college. Walking into the former "salle des malades", you can still feel its centuries-old role as a haven of peace for the sick. Around you is displayed a collection of Flemish art.
Nuns' bedroom On the first floor, the former nuns' bedroom forms the gallery where superb paintings of the period from the 15th to the 18th century (Flemish, Dutch and northern French masterpieces) are on display to the public.

	You can also see the tapestries of Guillaume Werniers, the paintings of the Watteau brothers, and the museum's classic Flemish works: "Jesus at the House of Martha and Mary" (Quellin and Fyt), "Traditional Festival in Antwerp" and "Procession in Antwerp" (Van Bredael), "Interior" (Vrel) .. and "Still Life with Oysters" (Van Es)
