Lille's Riverside trams and boat trips

Turn-of-the-century trams with a canal view	Century-old trams You can take a scenic tram-ride along the towpath of the river Deûle canal to the north of the city. The preserved trams run along 2km of track between Marquette and Wambrechies, on Sundays and public holidays in the summer (phone or see websites for details). Known as "Mongy" trams after Alfred Mongy who built them, these used to provide public transport through the streets of Lille. The last service to Tourcoing and Roubaix was modernised recently, and now has fast new trams running mainly on reserved tracks by the side of the main roads between Roubaix, Tourcoing and Lille.
Restored trams run on Sundays and public holidays - passing through a riverside hamlet in the style of the old Belgian rural tramways.
