Wormhout


This is the area where hops are grown - the traditional flavouring for beer

If you travel between Cassel and the coast, you pass through the flat low-lying fields and drainage ditches of maritime Flanders.

There are occasional small villages, each perhaps with a small market place, a traditional Flemish estaminet (pub), a church (often with relics of the counter-reformation, such as a "hall-kirk" layout, an ornate "retable" altar or an early organ.

Wormhout's market place has pretty bandstand dating from c.1900.
