St. Quentin Canal

'Eureka' navigates a lock on the upper Escaut.

Boat trips on the canal & rivers
The St.Quentin Canal project joins the River Escaut and the Seine basin, making it possible for barges to go between Paris and Northern France - and on to Belgium. The canal was completed by Napoleon, and reaches St. Quentin through a long tunnel cut in the chalk plateau. Once busy with cargoes of coal and manufactured goods, the canal now sees mainly leisure boats. At Rues-des-Vignes, boats can be moored to visit
Vaucelles Abbey and Archéosite, both near the river.

Groups can be served meals on board 'Eureka' during a cruise along the river Escaut.

Hire boats at Vaucelles Lock [near the Abbey] and at riverside moorings.
