New extended gallery
Founded in 1979 in the town's picturesque old Gendarmerie (built at the end of the 19th century by Emile Lavezzari), the Museum has recently re-opened with new displays taking advantage of a much extended exhibition space

Maritime painters
It now presents 150 paintings which evoke the special light of the Côte d'Opale and the life of local seafaring communities in the 19th century.

Along with the "genre" paintings and landscapes of the "Berck school", there are collections of traditional costumes, models of boats, period objects, and wood panels showing the hard lives and simple homes of local fishermen and sailors.

Artists include Marinus Chambon, Eugène Chigot, Jan Lavezzari (left) , Ludovic Lepic, Charles Roussel (left), Francis Tattegrain, and Eugène Trigoulet.

Archaeology
The new museum also has a section showing archaeological discoveries, including finds from recent dives along the coast.
